A Midsummer's NightmareA Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Release Date: June 5th 2012
Publisher: Poppy

Whitley Johnson’s dream summer with her divorcé dad has turned into a nightmare. She’s just met his new fiancée and her kids. The fiancée’s son? Whitley’s one-night stand from graduation night. Just freakin’ great.

Worse, she totally doesn’t fit in with her dad’s perfect new country-club family. So Whitley acts out. She parties. Hard. So hard she doesn’t even notice the good things right under her nose: a sweet little future stepsister who is just about the only person she’s ever liked, a best friend (even though Whitley swears she doesn’t “do” friends), and a smoking-hot guy who isn’t her stepbrother…at least, not yet. It will take all three of them to help Whitley get through her anger and begin to put the pieces of her family together.

Filled with authenticity and raw emotion, Whitley is Kody Keplinger’s most compelling character to date: a cynical Holden Caulfield-esque girl you will wholly care about.

First off, let me just start by saying I loved the main characters name, Whitley. Then, I’ll move on to the fact that I absolutely loved this book. Kody Keplinger has yet to disappoint, and this is the 3rd book of hers I’ve read.
I love how you slowly see Whitley let down her walls and wake up to see she has people who truly love her for her. But… I won’t get into that as I don’t want to give away any spoilers. Let’s just say that if you decide to pick up this book, you’re in for a great read.

Miss Keplinger is one of those authors that know people, and knows exactly how to craft and perfectly create all of those emotions. It makes the book all the more realistic. One of my favorite things about the way she writes is every book I’ve read by her has been in one way or another been influenced by classic literature yet made completely her own. I recommend you not just go out and buy this book, but Shut Out and The DUFF, as well!
