Hey everyone! Today I will be kicking off Bryce Gibson’s Perennials Blog Tour with a quick chat with the author. This book is SO good and i can’t wait to share my own review later in the week, as well as the other bloggers on the tour so be sure to follow along with @ElectivelyPaige on Twitter so you don’t miss a stop – #PerennialsBlogTour.
Without further ado, here’s the interview:
Hey Bryce! Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview, I really enjoyed Perennials and look forward to hearing what you have to say today.
To get us started, would you mind telling us a little bit about yourself?
I live in South Carolina with my wife and our dog. I graduated with a degree in Media Arts from the University of South Carolina. After college I worked in retail management for over a decade and am now working full-time on the farm that has been in my family since 1919.
As far as my writing goes, I like to say that I write “Southern fiction that takes readers to charming and oftentimes sinister areas of The South.”
I’ve recently read your novel, Perennials, and I truly enjoy it. I have to say you’re quite the masterful storyteller! Could you tell us a little bit about your inspiration?
The idea for Perennials came to me when I was working in my yard. A boy named Dusty Miller falls in love with a girl named Nandina Bush. Then I thought, what if there is a serial killer that is targeting people that share their names with plants? The rest of the novel just grew from there.
Walk us through a day in the life of author Bryce Gibson. Do you adhere to a strict writing schedule or do you go with the flow – somewhere in between, perhaps?
I pretty much have a schedule. I write in the mornings before I leave for work. I’ve found that if I try to write at night then it’s difficult to fall asleep because the story is still running through my head.
What would you say has been your favorite part of your journey as an author?
I love the beginning process when I’m constructing the big picture of the story and then when I begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel many months later.
Care to share what you’re working on now?
I’m writing another Young Adult thriller called The Reading Buddy. It is a story of twisted and deadly obsession. Look for it summer of 2017.
The cover for the book is perfect and I can’t wait to reveal it sometime in the coming months.
Any quirky writing habits?
Not really anything that I can think of. I’m pretty systematic when it comes to writing.
Do you prefer silence while writing, or do you enjoy music or something along those lines in the background?
Silence, for sure.
Can you describe Perennials in one tweet(140 characters)?
All the victims have one thing in common-they share their names with plants. Seventeen-year-olds Dusty Miller and Nandina Bush may be next.
Do you have any hobbies? I always love learning about the person behind the book!
I have too many! Gardening/landscaping, watching horror movies, reading, painting, running, working out.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell potential fans?
Just that I hope you enjoy my books.
So there you have it, folks! Be sure to check out Perennials here and stay tuned for more stops on the tour!
