New York Times bestselling author Tosca Lee brings a modern twist to an ancient mystery surrounding the most notorious female serial killer of all time. A fast-paced thriller for fans of Lee’s Books of Mortals series with Ted Dekker, Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, and BBC America’s hit series Orphan Black.
Emily Porter is the descendant of a serial killer. Now, she’s become the hunted.
She’s on a quest that will take her to the secret underground of Europe and the inner circles of three ancient orders—one determined to kill her, one devoted to keeping her alive, and one she must ultimately save.
Filled with adrenaline, romance, and reversals, The Progeny is the present-day saga of a 400-year-old war between the uncanny descendants of “Blood Countess” Elizabeth Bathory, the most prolific female serial killer of all time, and a secret society dedicated to erasing every one of her descendants. A story about the search for self amidst centuries-old intrigues and Europe’s underground scene…and one woman’s mission to survive.
From the moment I read the blurb of this book I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Tosca Lee’s The Progeny has so many of my favorite things in one book, which had me scared, but excited. Why scared? Well, I’d been reading quite a few books lately that had so many things I love, and they just didn’t work together. In The Progeny, this wasn’t the case. Combining elements of top-notch YA fiction with the fast-paced thrillers we can’t get enough of this book is at the top of my must read list for 2016.
The Progeny‘s unique backdrop has you instantly entranced. Who is this girl? Why did she go to such lengths to wipe her memory, and who can she trust to be telling her the truth? These questions will keep you turning the pages, and on the edge of your seat the entire book as reveal after reveal occurs and you spiral towards the shocking conclusion that will have you breathless and ready for book two. I cannot wait for the followup book as there are still so many questions I need answered, and, no spoilers here but I have to say that with the setup Tosca Lee gave us at the end of this book, the next one is going to be even better.
If you’re a history buff, a YA fan, and like your thrillers dipped in action packed conspiracy, or even just one of the above – The Progeny is a book you need to grab a copy of ASAP.
